61st Anniversary of India’s Independence

On 15th of August the Ambassador of India in Namibia made congratulations and welcomed to celebrate the 61st Anniversary of India’s Independence. In his speech he touched upon the issues of collaboration and mutual assistance of India and Namibia. “India and Namibia enjoy warm and friendly ties.  Our relationship is based on deep understanding and appreciation of each other’s concerns.  A number of high-level bilateral visits between our two countries underscore the importance and value attached to our relations.  These have been at the highest levels.”
In recent years, Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Anand Sharma visited Windhoek for the first ever meeting of Indo-SADC Forum in 2006 and had constructive interactions with the leadership  in Namibia.  This was followed by the visit of our Minister of State for Agriculture Cooperation for the period of 2007-08 was signed  In March 2008, Minister of State for Commerce Mr.   Jairam Ramesh pais a  very  successful  visit to Namibia.  India is ready to set up a diamond cutting and polishing centre in Windhoek for training Namibians and a high level delegation from Diamond India Ltd is expected in Windhoek in early September 2008.  A trade and investment delegation is to be mounted by Namibian Minister of Trade and Industry to boost investment.  India would assist in the establishment of the SMEs centre in Namibia in collaboration with EDI Ahamadabad.
“We have also close collaboration and cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education and all other line ministries and as well as the University of Namibia ant the Polytechnic”, he said.
