Krastsvetmet
In 2008, OAO Krastsvetmet will bring into operation a line producing hollow jewelry, says the quarterly report on the company’s activities in the first quarter of 2008.
This will permit to widen and renew the jewelry product range and to increase sales to a significant extent. Having analyzed the situation, which was shaping up on the jewelry market, the factory’s experts came to the conclusion that the growth of stock exchange prices for precious metals was a substantial negative factor affecting Krastsvetmet’s business. This resulted in more expensive jewelry products and decreased demand. It is expected that lighter hollow jewelry items will be more attractive in terms of price to consumers while preserving high quality and modern design.
As was reported by the Yuvelirnaya Rossiya, OAO Krastsvetmet is to open its affiliate in Yekaterinburg. Alexander Novak, Krastsvetmet’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, says, “This is not our first representation in other Russian cities. There is our branch operating in Moscow, and now we are opening an affiliate in Yekaterinburg.”
According to Alexander Novak, the decision to open branch offices is first of all connected with broadening the sales market for the jewelry produced by OAO Krastsvetmet. During five months of the current year Krastsvetmet sold 1,553 million roubles worth of jewelry, up 33.3% to January – May 2007.
Almaz-Holding
In 2008, Almaz-Holding’s turnover is predicted to rise approximately by 50% - up to 7 billion roubles. This was told to the RBC information agency by the company’s President Flun Gumerov. According to him, in 2007 the company’s turnover, including the Krasnoselski Jewelry Factory, was 4.7 billion roubles. The net profit will not exceed 10% of the company’s turnover.
At present time, the company owns 170 stores across Russia. On the average, the company opens two stores in a month, mainly in their own facilities. The price of opening one such store is USD 600,000-700,000. Now the company has four opened stores in Moscow. Flun Gumerov says his company is planning to launch more stores in Moscow and all of them will be opened in rented facilities. Almaz-Holding owns 40 pawnshops and does not intend to develop this business further. Flun Gumerov told that unprofitable pawnshops would be closed.
“Gold jewelry as any other jewelry is not something bought on the fly, at odd moments,” Ferkat Halliulin of Almaz-Holding addressed possible buyers in the Vechernyaya Ufa daily. “In the first place, we do not buy adornments every day. One has to treat the task well and truly and to choose exactly that thing, which will suit you or the person to whom you are going to make a memorable present. In the second place, any offer to buy a gold thing for half its price or two for the price of one should at least make you wary. There cannot be cheap sales on a solid jewelry market. Here it’s one or the other – either the initial price is marked up twice or the commodity’s origin is doubtful.”
Habitual invectives addressed to unnamed competitors were followed by an announcement of “real, fair and square” discounts:
“Almaz-Holding is launching the “Graduation Party” Action from June 10 to June 25. On these days all the buyers and first of all the school graduates and their parents will be offered festive discounts. For the holders of discount cards discounts will be summed up. As in the previous years, the company will present silver coins “for luck” to all the winners of school medals in Ufa. They will be handed in at the graduation party together with the medals.”
Russkiye Samotsvety
The sales of Russkiye Samotsvety’s retail network in 2007 grew 30% to 700 million roubles. This was reported to RBC by Sergey Dokuchayev, General Director of OAO Russkiye Samotsvety. According to him, in 2008 sales are expected to grow 10-15% to 900 million roubles.
At this date, the company has two stores in Moscow and 10 stores in Saint Petersburg, where in July 2008 it will open its 11th store. Before the end of 2008, five more stores will be opened in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. One new store is worth USD 1.2 million; the stores are to be opened in rented facilities. According to Sergey Dokuchayev, Russkiye Samotsvety’s net profit in 2008 will remain at the 2007 level reaching 90-100 million roubles. As he noted, the company’s net profit in 2008 may slightly decrease. According to him, this is due to credit payments and investments into the construction of a shopping and leisure center and two business centers on the company’s production facilities territory in Saint Petersburg. The completion of these two projects will yield 50,000 square meters of commercial area.
