Matvey Evseyev is the founder and head of OJSC Almazy Anabara (Diamonds of the Anabar). Having been born in a village, in a large family, and having lost his father at a rather young age, he graduated from school and entered the engineering department of the Yakutsky State University having graduated from it in 1990. Two years later he organized the ‘Gorniak’ (Miner) prospectors’ team working at the alluvial gold deposit in Amursky stream.

In 1995 Evseyev founded in Yakutia the Prospectors’ Association having become its chairman. By that time the gold extracted by the prospectors’ team amounted to 13 tons – over half of the total annual extracted volumes of gold in the republic.

The first diamond “plant” on the Mayat River where Evseyev’s team worked, became a minor geological installation meant for washing out of samples taken from test pits. It was assembled by the team members from the available spare parts, and part of the equipment was bought at their own expense. And during the first season out of the trenches dug out by the team at the stream bottom, they extracted diamonds worth $500 thousand.

Soon after the minor geological installation on the Mayat River they established a small plant capable of processing 150 thousand cubic meters of sand per season. Nowadays on Mayat’s tributary Oloma there is a factory with capacity of 500 thousand cubic meters diamondiferous sand.

The diamond-mining enterprise for which establishment hardly a penny was spent and to which a “futureless” deposit was allocated, each year increases the extraction volumes boasting sound figures of economic growth.

Apart from its principal activity – extraction of diamonds and geological exploration – at present OJSC Almazy Anabara deals in timber logging and processing, agriculture, processing of dairy primary products, major construction work, extraction of cover stone, trade, production of souvenirs.

Matvey Evseyev  is an honored worker of national economy of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia), Discoverer of the deposit, winner of the ‘Yakut of 2006’ contest in Business category, the Philanthropist of 2007, holder of the Order of Peter the Great and the Saint Blessed prince Daniil Moskovsky of third degree. The General Director of OJSC Almazy Anabara was also acknowledged “the Leader of the Russian economy-2003”, in 2005 became an awardee of the Russian national award “Person of the year”. On March 02, 2008 Mr. Evseyev  was for the seond time elected deputy of the state Assembly (Il Tumen) of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia).
